Admission Requirements

Entry requirements

  • Entry into UTP Stage I generally requires the successful completion of Year 11 or its equivalent with overall and individual subject requirements depending on program. Specific academic requirements are listed below:

English requirements

Direct entry

  • If you meet the direct entry English language requirement and meet the relevant academic requirements for your country, you will be eligible for direct entry to UTP Stage I or UTP Stage II. Direct entry includes a non-credit academic literacy course. This program is designed to be completed in three terms.

Integrated entry

  • If you meet the integrated entry English language requirement and the relevant academic requirements for your country, you will begin UTP Stage I or UTP Stage II and will take INTG100 and two academic courses in your first term of study. An A grade in INTG100 will exempt students from the academic literacy course. This program is designed to be completed in three terms.

Cornerstone entry

  • If you meet the cornerstone entry English language requirement and the relevant academic requirements for your country, you will begin UTP Stage I or UTP Stage II and will take cornerstone courses in your first term of study. Students who obtain an A in the cornerstone program will progress to direct entry, those with a B will progress to integrated entry. This program is designed to be completed in four terms.
  • IELTS (Academic), 6.0 Overall with minimum 6.0 in Reading and Writing and 5.5 in Speaking and Listening , 5.5 Overall with minimum 5.5 in Reading and Writing and 5.0 in Speaking and Listening, 5.5 Overall no band less than 4.5, or 5.0 Overall no band less than 5.0 in Reading and Writing, and 4.5 in Speaking and Listening
  • TOEFL, 79 Overall Reading and Writing minimum 18, 69 Overall Reading and Writing minimum 15, 59 Overall Reading and Writing minimum 12
  • Completion of the last three (3) years of full-time secondary school education in English in Canada, A minimum grade of 65% in senior level English is required, A minimum grade of 60% in senior level English is required, N/A

Other requirements

  • Mathematics requirements
    • Before you start a program at FIC, you will take the Math Placement Assessment.
    • The completion of secondary school mathematics (or equivalent) at an acceptable level is required for entry into UTP Stage II in the Computing Science, Environment, and Engineering Science streams.
    • Once accepted to FIC, before you start a Business Administration, Computing Science, Environment, or Engineering Science program, you will be required to take the Math Placement Assessment results, UTP Stage II students may be required to complete a Pre-Calculus course in the first term of UTP Stage II as a prerequisite to the required math course for their program. The Pre-Calculus course is additional to your required courses for Business Administration, Computing Science, Environment, and Engineering Science programs.

Course Information

UTP Stage I at FIC is designed to prepare you for entry to university-level programs in Business Administration, Computing Science, Engineering Science or Arts and Social Sciences. In UTP Stage I you complete eight courses. After successfully completing this program you will progress to UTP Stage II.

COURSE LIST

  • Students enrolled in UTPI must complete 8 courses with a GPA of 2.5. This includes UNI101, IUW100 or INS101/I02, one/two math classes based on your UTPII stream and additional electives to a total of 8. Select your electives based on the program you are planning to attend in Stage 2 and see an advisor for assistance with course selection.” Please note that not all courses are offered every semester. ILS101/ILSA101 is not a required course for students in UTPI.
