Admission Requirements

Entry requirements

  • Entry into UTP Stage II generally requires the successful completion of Year 12 of secondary school or its equivalent with overall and individual subject requirements depending on program. Specific minimum academic requirements are listed below*. Admissions assessments are based on an applicant’s complete academic record.

  • Entry into UTP Stage I generally requires the successful completion of Year 11 or its equivalent with overall and individual subject requirements depending on program. Specific academic requirements are listed below.

English requirements

  • *Students with IELTS 6.5 with minimum 6.0 in Reading and Writing, TOEFL 82 (minimum 20 in all components), or equivalent, are exempt from the Academic Literacy Course. This determination is made at the time of admission if the student is eligible for exemption. Students who begin their studies at FIC in the Cornerstone program are exempt from ILS101/ILSA101.

UTP Stage II: Environment provides first-year courses and the foundation for progression to the second year of SFU’s Faculty of Environment. With growing awareness of Environmental issues around the World, a degree from the Faculty of the Environment will provide multiple career options in Canada and around the World.

Entry to second year of Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Environment

Entry into second year of the Bachelor of Arts (BA), or the Bachelor of Environment (BEnv). The Faculty of Environment offer majors in the following areas (and many are also offered as minor options)

    • Archaeology (BA)
    • Archaeology and Anthropology (joint major)
    • Archaeology and First Nations Studies (joint major)
    • Development and Sustainability (minor only)
    • Human Geography (BA)

Certificates

Alongside obtaining a degree, students are also able to obtain certificates in the following areas:
