Vancouver Community College entrance awards 

Entrance awards of $1,000 are available to students entering one of the college's full-time programs or two terms of University Transfer courses (minimum three courses). 

Award recipients will be selected based on academic achievement and community involvement (volunteering). Applicants must have a B average and include a letter of reference along with the award application form. 

Vancouver Community College entrance scholarships for high school students 

Entrance Scholarships of $1,000 are available to students entering one of the college's full-time programs or two terms of University Transfer courses (minimum three courses). The scholarships are available to high school students in the lower mainland graduating in the current school year. 

Award recipients will be selected based on academic achievement and community involvement (volunteering). Applicants must have a B average and include a letter of reference along with the award application form. 

VCC Busaries

Vancouver Community College bursaries are non-repayable grants given to students who demonstrate financial need. Students are expected to have exhausted all other sources of financial assistance including student loans and the adult upgrading grant (AUG). 

Any VCC student can apply who:

• is able to show financial need (AUG or student loan recipients will be given priority)
• is registered full-time student (18 hours ESL/ABE or 60% course load for post-secondary) or is disabled and approved to study at 40%. Part-time students will be considered for a bursary only for emergency situations.
• is receiving passing grades in all courses.
•  Adult Upgrading Grant (for students in ESL, ABE and ASE programs)

​The provincial government has announced that it will be restoring funding and removing tuition fees for Adult Basic Education (ABE) and English as a Second Language (ESL) programs in British Columbia as of September 2017.

Canadian Hospitality Foundation

The Canadian Hospitality Foundation (CHF) offers over $200,000 worth of scholarships annually for students across Canada wishing to pursue a career in the hospitality, foodservice and tourism industry.

The CHF offers two scholarships to VCC students:

• College Entrance Scholarship (for students in their last year of high school)
• Hospitality/Hotel/Tourism/Food and Beverage Scholarship‌

International students in Canada (study permit holders) studying at a designated learning institution (DLI) in a program that requires work experience (practicum) need a co-op work permit. International students must obtain a co-op work permit before starting their paid or unpaid practicum experience.

If your program at VCC includes mandatory practicum experience as part of the curriculum, you may be eligible to apply for a co-op work permit (COWP). The practicum information will be available at your VCC LOO (Letter of Offer) or LOA (Letter of Acceptance).

The co-op work permit is issued for international students only to fulfill the requirements for the practicum experience – the mandatory work experience which is part of their program of studies in Canada. International students are not allowed to use their co-op work permit for any work outside their practicum experience.

If you have a co-op work permit from a different school, you will need to apply for a new co-op work permit using the VCC letter.

International students at Vancouver Community College may be eligible for the following work in Canada if they are enrolled in full time programs that meet the necessary length requirements:

Work Off-Campus

As an international student you will have the opportunity to gain invaluable Canadian work experience and practical job skills. 

International students are eligible to work part-time up to 20 hours per week during their studies and full-time during program vacations and breaks provided they meet the following conditions:

• Have a valid study permit
• Are enrolled in full-time study in a VCC certificate, diploma or degree program that is at least six months in duration
• Maintain satisfactory academic standing in their program of study

Important: International students in ESL programs are not eligible.

Post-Graduation Work Permit

VCC international students may be eligible to apply for a Post-Graduation Work Permit upon successful graduation from qualified programs.

Homestay

We encourage international students to experience life with a Canadian family, until they become accustomed to their new surroundings. Homestay is a safe and secure choice, providing students the opportunity to practice English outside the classroom and learn about the Canadian way of life. Liane's Vancouver Homestay places VCC international students with homestay families that provide the following:

• Private bedroom with a bed, bedding, dresser, desk, chair, desk lamp, closet
• Shared common areas of the house including bathroom, kitchen, and TV room
• Use of telephone and laundry facilities
• Three meals per day (be sure to check with your Homestay family for exact meal times)

Homestay Fees:

• Placement Fee: $290
• Homestay Fee: $840 per month
• Airport Pick-Up Fee: $75

There are many accommodation options for students in Metro Vancouver (eg. Homestay, furnished and unfurnished rentals in houses, basement suites, condos, apartments). Resources for locating available housing can be found online (e.g. GEC Residence - Student Housing, Rent Hello, Search4Studenthousing, YWCA Residence, Zoeken Canada, Craigslist, Kijiji), in newspapers (e.g. The Vancouver Sun, local newspapers in other languages) and through private ads on bulletin boards (e.g. at Community Centres).
