Admission Requirements

Entry Requirements

You will apply for admission as an international freshman student if you:  

  • Not a U.S. citizen nor a permanent resident of the United States, and

  • A holder or prospective holder of an F-1 student visa, and

  • Have graduated or will graduate from high school.

English Requirements

To be considered for admission you must have a minimum score of:

  • 550 on the TOEFL paper examination, or

  • 79-80 on the TOEFL internet examination, or

  • Minimum IELTS score of 6.5

TOEFL and IELTS exemptions

The following international applicants are exempt from submitting a TOEFL or IELTS score if one of the following conditions is met:

  • The applicant completed a bachelor's degree at a U.S. or Canadian institution of higher education, or

  • The applicant successfully completed two years of instruction (taught in the English Language) at a U.S. or Canadian high school or college, or

  • a minimum SAT critical reading score of 600, or

  • a minimum ACT English score of 27, or

  • The applicant provides other compelling evidence of English proficiency to the Office of Recruitment and Admissions.

Other Requirements

Submit International Transcript Evaluation Report(s) and U.S. Transcripts International Transcript Evaluation Report

To obtain an international transcript evaluation report, you must submit official transcripts from all international high schools, colleges and universities attended to one of the University-approved evaluation 

Submit ACT and/or SAT Test Scores

ACT and SAT Test Scores

ACT and/or SAT scores are required for an admissions decision and must be sent directly from the testing agency. Test scores can also be used to determine merit scholarship eligibility and admission into the Honors Program. 

Texas A&M-Corpus Christi also accepts ACT and SAT scores that are posted on the back of an official sealed transcript.

We recommend sending all testing attempts as out office "super scores" and reviews the highest scores from each test to form a new composite score.

Course Information

The Department of Art + Design offers 4 undergraduate degrees. Each degree is unique and requires different hours, credits and electives.

  • Bachelor of Arts in Studio Art

  • Bachelor of Arts in Graphic Design

  • Bachelor of Fine Arts

  • Bachelor of Fine Arts with Teaching Certification

The College of Liberal Arts also requires at least 6 semester hours of a second language for the Bachelor of Arts degree in Art.

The Bachelor of Arts degree with major study in art is a general program in art. The degree requires a minimum of 51 semester hours of art coursework. Course selections include two- and three-dimensional art, art history, design, and art electives.

Within this program, you’ll gain a broad understanding of art. You’ll also gain knowledge in a variety of art media, studio techniques and art history. As part of this degree, you’ll perfect your working knowledge of visual problem solving and critical thinking.
