Small Research Grant Scheme

The Asia Pacific International College (APIC) Small Research Grants (SRG) scheme is available to all APIC academic staff (permanent, contract and sessional ). The SRG scheme aims to enhance a culture of research and scholarship at APIC. Grants are available to support research in the substantive disciplines of APIC as well as research into learning and teaching.

Grants can be awarded to individual researchers however priority is given to projects that:

·         Answer important applied research questions

·         Involve internal and external collaborations

APIC SRGs will normally be for a maximum of $7500.00 although it is expected that many projects will require less funding. Grants that involve cross-disciplinary collaboration or collaboration with external partners may be up to $10,000.00.

It is a condition of the award of an APIC SRG that:

·         grant recipients complete a Progress Report Form annually

·         any substantial changes to how the budget is expended and/or the methodology of the grant are approved by the Chair of the APIC Research and Scholarship Committee who may seek advice from other members of that Committee. If the project involves human participants, then changes to methodology must be approved by the ethics committee that originally approved the project.

Grant Application Process

Applications for the APIC SRG are requested annually by closing date of 31 October with outcomes conveyed to applicants by 20 December and funding available from January of the following year. Staff wishing to apply must apply using the APIC Small Research Grant Application Form

Support for Student Presentations at Conferences

Asia Pacific international College has some limited funds to support students who wish to present the results of research conducted at APIC at conferences. The funds can be used towards the costs of registration at the conference, an air fare to and from the venue and / or accommodation to a maximum of $300. Applicants must be current students or recent graduates of the College (within twelve (12) months of completion of the degree) who have a paper accepted for presentation at a recognised professional or academic conference.

It is a requirement of funding that the student is identified as being affiliated with Asia Pacific International College in all correspondence with the conference organisers and will be listed in the official program as being affiliated with Asia Pacific International College. The student and supervisor must also be prepared to submit the abstract and information about the conference to the marketing section of the College, that it may be used in any information campaign about the College and group that may be deemed appropriate.

Get involved in APIC Research and Scholarship

The APIC Research and Scholarship Seminar Series showcases and shares the work of APIC staff and collaborators. The papers are invited because they are current, relevant and applied. Members of the APIC community (students, staff and collaborators) are invited to attend all seminars.

Student Learning Support at APIC aims to improve the academic experience for all students by supporting and motivating you to do the best work you can and by developing skills for succeeding with your academic studies and improving your job-readiness.
Our academic support is delivered via the following three main channels: online academic skills resources, individual and small group consultations and in-class skill development.

Students are able to book individual or small group consultations with a Learning and Teaching Advisor for assistance with specific study-related issues. For example, we can help you:

• learn specific skills and develop strategies for paraphrasing, referencing, using linking words, reading academic texts, editing your work, and so on;
• understand the requirements and format of different types of assessments, such as essays, case studies and reports;
• break down feedback you received on an assessment and work out a plan for improving your next assessment based on the feedback;
• prepare a plan or outline for an upcoming assessment; or
• review a draft assessment and discuss areas of strength and areas for improvement.
  As well as regular business hours support, we also offer consultation hours two evenings a week (Wednesdays and Thursdays, 7:30pm - 9pm). Consultations can be delivered face-to-face on campus, or via phone or video conference (Zoom, Skype).
