English language ability of IELTS 4.5 overall with no skill below 4.5.
If English is not your first language, this subject-specific international foundation year will give you the necessary English language ability and expertise to study an undergraduate degree in art, architecture and design within UK higher education.
You will gain an understanding of British culture and universities, and you will work on your intercultural communication, maths, research and study skills. You will also become more aware of the requirements of studying at a UK university, helping you to be more successful and confident on your chosen undergraduate degree.
This pathway will prepare you for study on our art, architecture and design courses. You will be introduced to various practice-based routes, taking part in projects within each field to gain relevant skills and get a flavour of the different disciplines within this subject area. You will also explore the subject-specific terminology and literature that you could use when preparing visual documents to accompany your practical work.
You might study some parts of the course with British students, while other sessions will be with fellow international students.
On completion of this course, to progress onto undergraduate degree courses with a portfolio requirement, you will also need to meet these portfolio requirements. You will also be awarded a Foundation Certificate. As such, this course is the first year of a four year integrated degree programme*.
