  • Admission to our undergraduate degree programs usually requires successful completion of a senior secondary school qualification similar to the Higher School Certificate (HSC), the highest educational award in New South Wales schools.

Post-secondary study

  • Further education like diplomas and university study can also be assessed for admission.

Pathway Courses

The Bachelor of Arts/Bachelor of Science requires the successful completion of exactly 320 units. Students must complete one of the following pathways:

Pathway A (Single major option):

  • 110 units of Core Courses (30 units of Arts Core Courses plus 80 units Science Core Courses including a MATH Directed course*)
  • One 80 unit B Science Major
  • One 80 unit B Arts Major
  • 50 units of electives ** OR (1) one 40 unit B Arts Minor plus 10 units of electives.

Pathway B:

  • 110 units of Core Courses (30 units of Arts Core Courses plus 80 units Science Core Courses including a MATH Directed course*)
  • One 120 unit B Science Major
  • One 80 unit B Arts Major
  • 10 units of electives.

*Students choose their MATH Directed course based on previous mathematical background. See the course descriptions for details.

** Electives can include suggested Science Elective Pathways or unrestricted courses offered within the university.

Restrictions regarding BScience and BArts major combinations are listed below.

BScience Majors Options:

Pathway A (80 units majors by Discipline)

  • Biology: Biology.
  • Chemistry: Chemistry of Advanced Materials; Environmental and Analytical Chemistry; Medicinal and Organic Chemistry.
  • Earth Science: Earth Sciences.
  • Environmental Science: Biodiversity and Conservation; Marine and Coastal Science; Sustainable Resources Management.
  • Geography: Geography.
  • Mathematics and Statistics: Mathematics; Statistics.

Pathway B (120 unit majors by Discipline):

  • Biology: Animal Biology; Plant Biology.
  • Chemistry: Chemistry.
  • Earth Science: Climate, Water and Soils; Geology.
  • Environmental Science: Biodiversity, Conservation and Ecological Sciences; Environmental Remediation; Marine, Coastal and Ecological Sciences.
  • Geography: Integrated Geography.
  • Physics: Physics.
  • Psychology: Psychology.

BArts Major Options:

  • Creative & Performing Arts
  • Education
  • English & Writing
  • Film, Media & Cultural Studies
  • French Studies (either Beginner or Intermediate Sequence)

Major Combination Restrictions

  • A BSc Psychology major cannot be taken with a BArts Psychology Science Major.
  • A BSc Geography, or Integrated Geography major cannot be taken with a B Arts Human Geography and the Environment major.
