Course Information

  • Do you desire to become a pilot? Take your pilot career to new heights, with UniSQ's Bachelor of Aviation (Flight Operations). You will have the chance to take to the skies in your first year, continue your flight training in your second year and you will only study courses that are directly relevant to your profession, unlike many other Aviation degrees offered.
  • You will study both technical and non-technical Aviation areas and it is these non-technical skills such as multi-crew cooperation, safety management systems and international aviation that makes the difference when you are being interviewed for your first job.
  • In the first year you will study aviation, with the opportunity to experience your first foray into the sky as a pilot.  In the second year you may  conduct the majority of your flying training and then complete the rest of the degree either on-campus or online in your third year. If you join the Qantas Group Future Pilot Program, you will undertake 2 years of study, followed by flight training in your third year.
  • See and experience the aviation industry first-hand by flying in our world-class flight simulator in your first year of study! The first of their kind in Queensland, UniSQ’s simulators are designs based on Boeing 737 and Airbus A320 aircraft. These simulators are able to replicate an entire flight, both normal and abnormal scenarios, while completing checks and procedures just like airline pilots do.
  • Have the opportunity to be considered for the Qantas Group Future Pilot Program, with access to experienced pilots during your degree. Selected students will be invited to complete an intensive twelve week Airline Transition Course. Upon successful course completion, graduates will transition to employment with QantasLink and complete their training under the supervision of QantasLink’s experienced training team and become qualified as First Officers flying the airline’s Dash 8 200/300 or Q400 fleet. To be eligible to be considered for the program, students need to hold a GPA of 5.0 or above for the duration of their studies, and Australian work rights.
  • After completing your first year of study you will be able to undertake your formal flight training with a flight school that is a Registered Training Organisation. You will be responsible for any fees or costs associated with flight training. For the applicable VET registered diplomas (or equivalent), the University will grant eight units of block credit for the second year of the Bachelor of Aviation (Flight Operations) major. The applicable VET registered diplomas are:
    • AVI50219 – Diploma in Aviation (Commercial Pilot Licence – Aeroplane)1 or
    • AVI50319 – Diploma in Aviation (Commercial Pilot Licence – Helicopter)1
Applicants with military and/or international equivalents to these qualifications will be considered on an individual basis. If needed, please contact UniSQ or discuss directly with your proposed aviation registered training organisation.
Thinking of studying in 2024? UniSQ will be delivering flexible new ways of teaching, with different calendar offerings, making the balance of study and life easier. Read more in our new academic calendar FAQs

Professional accreditation

Once you have successfully completed your flight training, the Australian Civil Aviation Authority will issue your Commercial Pilot Licence. This allows you to fly as a Professional and receive remuneration as a Pilot.
