A unique degree
The Bachelor of Communication (Digital Marketing) is the only degree in New Zealand that combines business, strategy, and creative visual and verbal communication skills.
Combine your love of technology and creativity with the Bachelor of Communication (Digital Marketing).
The world needs communicators. It needs people who have the creativity and imagination to develop content that will inspire and connect people, and the logical, analytical and language skills to deliver that content in a strategic and meaningful way. We increasingly need communicators who have an in-depth understanding of the digital world and how to communicate effectively via digital platforms. Massey University’s Bachelor of Communication in digital marketing will give you these skills.
Relevant to employers
This degree was developed in consultation with employers – who told us the skills they are looking for and that are currently lacking in other qualifications on offer. Working collaboratively with employers and industry means your learning will be highly relevant across a wide range of sectors. Communicating via digital platforms is now a standard of communication practice, yet many organisations do not understand how they could use this to its full potential, so your knowledge will be in demand.
85% of Massey University Bachelor of Communication graduates are employed within six months of graduation. These graduates are employed across 20 different industry categories with more than 280 different job titles.
What will you learn?
You will learn about all forms of digital media, digital branding, how to produce effective digital material, and how to effectively use social media to help companies thrive and grow.
You will be able to apply marketing theory to digital marketing situations and develop an evidence-based digital strategy. Our courses will teach you how to then translate that strategy into specific tactics that integrate elements of the digital marketing communication mix.
Newly established guidelines for digital ethics have been developing to keep up with the rapid expansion of digital mediums into our lives. You will learn the skills and framework for acting ethically in the context of the digital marketing discipline.
Real world learning
The digital marketing major has a strong practical element, involving case-based projects based on a real-life business, and regular guest speakers from industry.
The Marketing Consultancy Project is a course where you will work in an organisation on a real live project. There is also a communication internship course available for BC students with good grades.
This brings your learning to life, gives you a taste of working life and helps you make connections with potential employers.
This workplace-relevant three-year degree is unique in New Zealand. You’ll join our graduates with exciting careers around the world.
Internationally recognised
In 2016 the School of Communication, Journalism and Marketing / Te Pou Aro Korero won coveted accreditation from the US-based Accrediting Council for Education in Journalism and Mass Communications, for the four majors of Journalism Studies, Marketing Communication, Public Relations, and Communication Management. This makes the Bachelor of Communication the only degree outside the Americas and the Middle East to hold this accreditation.
Massey University’s communication and media studies ranks in the top 150 world-wide and its business and management studies ranks in the top 250 (by QS (Quacquarelli Symonds) rankings). We are ranked No.1 in New Zealand and in the top 150 universities worldwide for our business administration, communication and finance programmes by ShanghaiRanking.
These accreditations mean that your degree is internationally recognised, making it easier to arrange a student exchange and find employment overseas.
Unique variety in your study - just like the working world
Massey’s Bachelor of Communication is the only communication degree in New Zealand that requires you to take courses from both business and arts. Your degree will be made up of a major from one discipline and a minor from another.
This gives you variety in your study, which means you’ll graduate not just with a degree, but as a well-rounded, innovative communication specialist who is sought-after by employers. In our survey of past graduates, 84% believed that their BC studies were relevant to their present work.
You’ll study both business and humanities subjects. You’ll probably discover that neither is what you expected and you end up loving a subject you didn’t think you would!
