Admission Requirements

Entry Requirements

Admission to the Bachelor of Medical Science will be determined by the following criteria:

  • academic achievement for Year 12 applicants in the year before entry

  • OR academic achievement for applicants who have completed their senior secondary studies up to three years prior to application and who have not previously attempted tertiary study at Diploma level or higher

  • all prerequisite subjects (or their equivalent) must be met.

  • Prerequisites: English, English as an Additional Language, Literature or English & Literature Extension (Units 3&4, C); For applicants who completed secondary studies up to 3 years before applying and have not attempted tertiary study at diploma level or higher.

English Requirements

English language requirements apply to International applicants and other applicants whose previous study was undertaken in a language other than English. The minimum English language requirements for such applicants for entry to this program are as follows:

  • A minimum overall band score of 7.0 on IELTS (Academic) with no sub-score of less than 6.5

  • OR a minimum score of 580 on TOEFL

  • OR an internet-based (iBT) TOEFL score of 92 (no score less than 22)

  • OR no score less than 4 in each skill of the ISLPR (conducted by ISLPR Language Services only)

  • OR a minimum overall score of 185 (no score less than 176) on C2 Proficiency (formerly Cambridge Certificate of Proficiency in English)

  • OR an overall score of 65 in the Pearson Test of English (Academic) with no score less than 58.

English test results must be no more than two years old.

Course Information

This degree, designed for high-achieving secondary school leavers, provides the opportunity for you to progress directly into our Doctor of Medicine (5099)*.

In your first year, you will be introduced to the basic sciences underpinning medical science - anatomy, chemistry, biochemistry, genes and disease, law and ethics, microbiology, physiology, and epidemiology. You will also undertake a course in "Human Skills in Medicine" which provides you with knowledge and skills in communication and interaction with patients.

In second year, you will study these areas in greater depth and take medically focused courses in immunology, infectious disease, pharmacology, metabolism, structural biochemistry, and molecular genetics, as well as undertaking a capstone course (Integrated Medical Sciences) which integrates and applies the knowledge of basic sciences learned in your first and second years.

Honours is available through an additional year of study.
