Course Information

Physiotherapy is an evidence-based autonomous profession that strives to develop, maintain and restore people’s maximum movement and functional ability.

Physiotherapy can help people at any stage of life, when movement and function are threatened by ageing, injury, diseases, disorders, conditions or environmental factors. Physiotherapists are the experts of human movement who help people improve and sustain wellbeing within the various health spheres that include health promotion, injury and impairment prevention, treatment, habilitation and rehabilitation.

The Degree programme provides students with a broad education in the study and treatment of movement disorders and related pathologies, as recommended in the guidelines of the World Confederation for Physical Therapy. It gives the student the opportunity to develop personally, intellectually and professionally. The first three years of the four year programme are mainly academic and practical, while the final year is dedicated solely to supervised clinical practice and research. During the first semester of the final year, students are encouraged to obtain clinical practice overseas utilising one of the several Erasmus agreements that the Department of Physiotherapy has with major universities throughout Europe.

On completion of the course the graduate from the programme will be an accountable and competent professional who will meet the standards for registration with the Council for the Professions Complimentary to Medicine in Malta; and shall have the skills to address health both in well-being and disability by means of prevention, diagnosis and treatment to influence the physical function and performance of the body.
