Entry requirements

  •  Degree NZQF Level 7 (420 credits) 1.2 EFTS per year *PENDING APPROVAL FROM NZQA*

English requirements

  • Media Design School expects all students to be proficient in English at an academic level. Evidence of this can be provided through IELTS, TOEFL, PTE academic scores, or an equivalent.
  • For applicants applying for Diploma in Digital Creativity, students need Academic IELTS 5.5 overall, or equivalent;
  • For applicants applying for a Bachelor programme, Diploma in Creative Advertising or Graduate Diploma in Creative Technology, students need Academic IELTS 6.0 overall with no band score less than 5.5, or equivalent;
  • For applicants applying for a Postgraduate programme, students need Academic IELTS 6.5 overall with no band score less than 6.0, or equivalent

Other requirements

  • Special Admission is a way to be considered for entrance if you are a New Zealand or Australian citizen or permanent resident, are over 20 years of age on the first day of semester and want to study at University, but don't have a formal university entrance qualification. Applicants who do not meet requirements for general admission, and have relevant experience and skills may apply for special admission, which must be supported by a professional portfolio or documented industry experience.

  • Year One - Your first year will cover the foundational skills of software engineering and AI, including an introduction to computer graphics and practical mathematical skills. You’ll develop an understanding of basic knowledge representation, problem solving techniques and architectures used to build intelligent systems.

  • Year Two - Delve deeper into the world of software engineering with an intro to data science and a focus on the applications of AI. You’ll extend the statistical and mathematical concepts covered in year 1, while discovering machine learning principles and exploring the vital field of human-centred design.

  • Year Three - Expand your technical knowledge and round out your skill set with a focus on data mining, visualisation and creative enterprise. In your final semester you’ll explore intuitive approaches to AI, with advanced tech-work integrated learning culminating in the production of an industry-standard capstone project.
