If you show that you have equivalent skills for tertiary study gained through study, work and/or life experience, you may be able to gain alternative entry.
Note: The number of courses you have to complete for this qualification may be reduced where you have relevant credits from previous study, or evidence of similar learning or experience in the workplace.
Prepare for higher-level study in construction and architectural studies
This pathway is designed to prepare you for either the Bachelor of Architectural Studies or the Bachelor of Construction, available in construction management and quantity surveying.
It covers a variety of subjects including measurement and algebra, documentation and skills for academic study.
Please note: the majority of courses within this programme are only available in Christchurch. Please check with the Department of Engineering and Architectural Studies for more information.

As a certificate graduate you can progress your studies at Ara with the Bachelor of Architectural Studies or Bachelor of Construction with specialisations in construction management or quantity surveying.
The certificate will introduce you to architectural studies or construction management/quantity surveying and prepare you for further study by developing your skills for academic study.
Careers leading from the architectural studies or construction degree qualifications include construction manager, site manager, project manager, contracts supervisor, quantity surveyor, estimator/cost planner and procurement manager or working as a team member in an established architectural practice.
You may also choose to continue your studies to become a registered architect.
