Admission Requirements

Entry requirement

A recognized Secondary (High) School Leaving Certificate (i.e. 12 or 11 years of education depending on the country of origin) or equivalent qualifications (e.g. GCE “A” levels).

English requirement

  1. An average score of at least of 5.0 in the IELTS examination.
  2. A score of at least 40 in the TOEFL Internet Based Test (TOEFL iBT).
  3. A score of at least 38 in the Pearson Test of English Academic (PTE Academic).
  4. A Secondary (High) School Leaving Certificate where English was the language of instruction.
  5. A degree or a higher education qualification of at least 2 year’s duration where English was the language of instruction.

In case a student does not possess one of the above English language qualifications but he/she is in possession of another qualification, he/she may ask the Office of Admissions if his/her qualification is considered as an equivalent to any of the above qualifications.

Course Information

Students enrolled in this program earn a Bachelor of Science in Management Information Systems. The program is designed to prepare students for careers in the field of information systems as programmer analysts, systems designers and ultimately in systems consulting, information services and their management, and related product development and their marketing. Further, the program is designed to prepare students for post-baccalaureate studies in business or information systems.

The aims and objectives of the program are:

  • To develop students’ critical thinking and to refine their analytical, problem-solving and decision-making skills.
  • To provide students a solid understanding in the development and use of business information systems and information technology to improve the productivity of individuals and the overall effectiveness of organizations.
  • To equip students with a firm foundation in the functional areas of business (accounting, marketing, finance and management) and a solid understanding in the use of computers as a tool in solving information problems in organizations.
  • To emphasize the role and application of computers in making management decisions and to provide the analytical framework and the methodology to analyze, design, implement and manage complex computer-based information/decision systems.
  • To expose students to current technology, applications and trends of business information systems.
  • To examine the integration of information systems into an organization by providing students hands-on experience in developing and/or using management information systems, database management systems, executive support systems, expert systems and structured programming.
  • To provide students the academic, technical and intellectual background that would enable them to pursue higher studies in high-quality graduate and professional schools.

Upon successful completion of this program of study, its graduates will:

  1. Apply analytical, problem-solving, decision-making and critical thinking skills based on information systems concepts for solving organizational problems.
  2. Explain the various principles that management information systems have toward advancing strategic goals and the operational success of an organization.
  3. Identify current and emerging technologies and apply them to today’s organizations in order to increase an individual’s productivity and the overall effectiveness of an organization.
  4. Analyze existing systems and design, implement and manage computer based technology solutions appropriate to the goals of an organization.
  5. Support and defend an original proposal for the operation and maintenance of an enterprise level database system, to include policies for audits, security, backup, repair and replication.
  6. Effectively utilize database and database management systems to organize, store and retrieve data.
  7. Work effectively in project teams to implement information technology-based solutions.
  8. Develop, test and debug simple applications.
  9. Communicate the role of management information systems in the decision making within an organization.
  10. Research information to create context for informed organizational decision-making.
