Admission Requirements

Entry Requirement

Year 12 or equivalent

Applicants are eligible to be considered for a place in a Torrens University Australia undergraduate program if they have one of the following:

  • An Australian secondary education qualification, or equivalent qualification from an overseas institution.
  • A completed or partly completed qualification at AQF level 6 (associate degree) or above from an Australian University or an equivalent higher education qualification.
  • A completed Vocational Education and Training (VET) qualification at AQF Level 4 (Certificate IV) or above.
  • A Special Tertiary Admission Test (STAT) percentile rank or equivalent.
  • A completed foundation studies or preparatory program that is recognised for admission purposes by another Australian University.
  • Informal and/or non-formal learning that satisfy the criteria for Special Entry into University programs.

English Requirement

  • Equivalent IELTS 6.0 (Academic) with no skills band less than 5.5

Demonstrated ability to undertake study at the required level:

  • Broadly relevant work experience (documented e.g. CV), demonstrating a reasonable prospect of success; OR

  • Formal, informal or non-formal study, completed or partially completed, demonstrating a reasonable prospect of success; OR

  • Written submission to demonstrate reasonable prospect of success.

Course Information

The Diploma of Counselling and Communication Skills develops your theoretical knowledge and practical skills required to secure employment opportunities in the community sector. You’ll develop an understanding of human behaviour at different stages, behavioural problems and strategies for positive behaviour management, impact of society and culture, and also critically review a range of theories in counselling, relate counselling theory to issues in counselling, develop an ethical approach to counselling and develop skills to assess, and manage and refer clients accordingly.
