Admission Requirements

​​Entry requirement

  • Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) or equivalent including these required courses:
    • Grade 12 English (ENG4C or ENG4U or equivalent)
    • Three Grade 11 or Grade 12 C, M or U courses in addition to those listed above
    • or
    • Mature student status
    • or
    • College or university transfer status

English requirements 

  • For any program level, a minimum of three years of full-time study at the secondary school level in an English language school system in a country where English is considered the primary language, or the primary language of instruction and evaluation is English, with acceptable grades in all English courses. 
  • For any program level, a minimum of  two full years of successful study in an accredited university degree program or two full years of successful study in an accredited college diploma program in a country OR in a postsecondary institution where English is the primary language of instruction.
  • Minimum TOEFL Scores: 550 for paper-based test OR 80 (20L, 20W, 20S, 20R) for internet-based test
  • Minimum IELTS Scores: Overall 6.0 AND No band below 5.5
  • Minimum MELAB Score: 76
  • Minimum EAP Score: Successful completion of all EAP courses with a minimum grade point average (GPA) of 60% in Level 8
  • Minimum PTE Score: 53 - 57
  • Minimum CAEL Score: Overall band score of 60
  • Minimum FCE/CAE/CPE Score: Cambridge (FCE/CAE/CPE) 174 (with no single test score below 167)
  • Duolingo Language Test Scores: Between 105 -110

Other requirements

  • Applicants will present a portfolio that includes 12 examples of original work. The portfolio must contain a combination of colour and/or black and white images.

Humber's Photography diploma program equips you with a skillset to be an asset to a wide range of visual communications companies. This program gives you a extensive hands-on two year learning experience, developing skills in planning, production and post-production, along with equipping you with soft skills and industry knowledge for your career ahead.

From advertising photography to editorial and portraiture, to video and e-commerce imaging, you will graduate from this program prepared to fully engage in a plethora of career options.

At Humber, you learn photography using the latest equipment taught by experienced photographic teaching professionals, with classes having hands-on shooting that incorporates real world skills. Following a work placement in final semester, the program culminates with a graduate portfolio show where students network with industry, and introduce their skills with portfolios, video footage and large format prints.

The program includes a 72-hour work placement, providing you with a chance to apply your skills in a real-life professional setting. The program works with industry for technical support and postings to help students find their placements.
