Admission Requirements

Entry Requirements

  • Minimum ATAR equivalent 55 (Australian Tertiary Admission Rank), OR

  • Minimum 65% in 4 HSC Subjects (or equivalent), OR,

  • Minimum 70% in 3 HSC Subjects (or equivalent), OR

  • Interstate ATAR equivalent (such as Victoria’s ENTER or Queensland OP), OR

  • Results in an overseas qualification deemed equivalent to minimum ATAR, OR

  • International Baccalaureate (IB)

If any of the above entry requirements are not met, applications will be assessed on a case-by-case basis.

English Requirements

To gain entry into this course you need to have met the following requirements:

IELTS Academic 6.0 (min 6.0 in Reading and Writing) or equivalent completed in the last two years; or

OTHER QUALIFICATIONS COMPLETED IN ENGLISH: Applicants may be considered as meeting the English language requirement if successfully completing two (2) years of secondary or tertiary study at an approved institution where:

  • the language of instruction was English; and

  • the institution is located in a country where the official language is English.

Academic transcripts and an official letter from the institution certifying that English was the sole language of instruction and assessment must be provided. Previous study in English is considered on a case-by-case basis and does not automatically meet UOW's English language requirement.

The following citizenships may be considered for an English language waiver under the above guideline: Bahamas, Barbados, Canada, Fiji, Ireland, Jamaica, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea, Samoa, Singapore, Solomon Islands, South Africa, Tonga, Trinidad & Tobago, UK, USA.

The Diploma of Science Standard Session can get you guaranteed* entry into the second year of a Bachelor of Science or first year of a Bachelor of Science Education at the University of Wollongong (UOW).

The course is designed for international students, studying in Australia.

What is the science behind life? What makes up the world’s diverse species and ecosystems? How do we protect and manage the earth’s wildlife and environment?

In the Diploma of Science you will address these fundamental questions and gain the skills to be better prepared to succeed at your UOW bachelor. The course is designed to empower you to apply scientific thinking and analysis to important issues impacting the world today. You’ll explore various concepts and skills in mathematics and a variety of fundamental science disciplines and graduate with a Higher Education Diploma to help get you into the workforce while completing your bachelor's degree.

The Diploma of Science is an in-depth preparation program which provides a guaranteed* pathway into the second year of a Bachelor of Science at UOW. It is designed to empower you to apply scientific thinking and analysis to important issues impacting the world today. You will learn the language and nature of science and mathematics, and will be able to follow your interests in specific areas of science. Tertiary skills development embedded in the Diploma of Science prepares you for successful participation at UOW, with an emphasis on a range of practical laboratory and written work, including group work.

  • Bachelor of Science (All specialisations) - Credit includes entry into 2nd Year (8 subjects, 48 credit points)

  • Bachelor of Science Education (Chemistry First Teaching Area) - Credit includes entry into 1st Year, 2nd Session (6 subjects, 36 credit points) **Must apply via UAC, on successful completion of the UOW College program.

  • Bachelor of Science Education (Biology First Teaching Area) - Credit includes entry into 1st Year, 2nd Session (5 subjects, 30 credit points) **Must apply via UAC, on successful completion of the UOW College program.
