Students are required to provide evidence of having sufficient language, literacy and numeracy skills to successfully undertake the program’s academic and workplace experience requirements, prior to commencing the program.
There are a range of entry requirements to ensure you are suitable for the course. These include:
Completed Australian HSC (or equivalent Australian Senior Secondary Certificate of Education) or international equivalent, OR
A Certificate IV level qualification or international equivalent (deemed as equivalent to completion of Year 12), AND
Achieve a minimum result of Exit Level 3 in a basic Numeracy test (online assessment administered by UOW College Australia), AND
Minimum age 18 years at course commencement.
Students that would be required by the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBA) to provide a formal English language skills test when applying for registration, must provide a formal English language test result demonstrating they have achieved the NMBA specified level of English language skills with minimum results in accordance with the NMBA English Language Skills Registration Standard, prior to commencing the program.
Please Note: This course is only delivered at the at the University of Wollongong main campus in Wollongong. Students must attend classes and complete clinical placement requirements in person. Remote online delivery from an overseas, or any other, location is not permitted.
IELTS (Academic module) with a minimum overall score of 7.0, including a minimum score of 7.0 in all bands, or equivalent, in accordance with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBA) English Language Skills Registration Standard.
The Diploma of Nursing is designed to assist you to develop your knowledge, skills, and attributes for practice as an Enrolled Nurse. You will learn how to communicate effectively with patients and other staff, administer and monitor medications, manage the care of wounds and prepare health assessments and care plans. You will also benefit from clinical placements in which you will work as part of a team and under the supervision of Registered Nurses. This is a nationally recognised qualification that is accredited by the Australian Nursing and Midwifery Accreditation Council (ANMAC). Students who successfully complete the Diploma of Nursing are eligible to apply for registration as an Enrolled Nurse with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBA). The Diploma of Nursing can be used to apply for entry into the second year of the Bachelor of Nursing at UOW or as direct entry into the workforce following NMBA registration as an Enrolled Nurse.

PROGRESSION TO UOW:
Students who successfully complete the Diploma of Nursing are eligible to apply to UOW for entry to the Bachelor of Nursing. Applications will be subject to UOW entry requirements including Faculty assessment. If admission is approved, applicants will be awarded 48 credit points towards the Bachelor of Nursing (entry into the second year). Students must also achieve NMBA registration as an Enrolled Nurse and successfully complete a one day UOW Bachelor of Nursing Orientation Program prior to Bachelor of Nursing commencement. Students who successfully complete the Diploma of Nursing may also use this qualification to apply for a range of bachelor degrees at UOW.
