Entry requirements

  • a completed online general application
  • official transcripts from ALL colleges and universities attended that contributed in earning the Bachelor’s degree:
    • Official transcripts and certificates (with notarized translations into English where appropriate) from all colleges and universities attended.
  • a statement of purpose
  • three letters of recommendation.

English requirements

  • TOEFL of 79 (La Verne Code 4381) exam results sent directly from the testing agency to the University of La Verne;
  • IELTS of 6.5, sent directly from the testing agency to the University of La Verne;
  • Duolingo English Test of 100; or
  • Completion of level 112 at ELS Language Centers in the Intensive program

Course Information

The Master of Arts in Teaching prepares students to become educators who want to shape the future of California’s youth, families, and communities by becoming an influential elementary, middle, or high school teacher. The MA Teaching program is approved by the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing and is specifically designed to prepare educators to meet the needs of California’s diverse student population, emphasizing language development, cultural diversity, and humanistic approaches to the learning process.

  • Emphasizes current issues in education and skills for action research
  • Culminates in a project or paper focused on improving instructional and leadership abilities

Option 2: Educational Technology

  • Emphasizes teaching, pedagogy, theory, tools, resources, and applications used in traditional and flipped instruction classrooms
  • Culminates in a project structured to help teachers implement technology in meaningful ways

Option 3: Teacher Leadership

  • Emphasizes teaching, coaching, and collaboration with colleagues to implement research supported practices that enhance student success
  • Culminates in a faculty panel review of the student’s ePortfolio compiled throughout the course sequence

Option 4: Special Education

  • Emphasizes working with learners with mild to moderate special education needs and the structures utilized to support them
  • Culminates in a faculty panel review of the student’s ePortfolio compiled throughout the course sequence

Option 5: Child Development

  • Emphasizes understanding the physical, intellectual, social, and emotional development of children
  • Culminates with a capstone research project
