Course Information

Bridge cultural borders in this in-demand education field

TESOL is a high-demand field for both ESL teachers and general education and content area teachers with promising career opportunities domestically and internationally. English Language Learners (ELLs) are students who speak a language other than English at home and represent a growing population in public schools. These students score below proficient on English language and related assessments when they enter the public school system.

With the 30-credit MST in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL), students gain knowledge of the multifaceted approach to successfully teach ELLs, including the specialized study of language and literacy development, and differentiated instruction methods for students at all grade levels. The program’s focused exploration of the theory, research, and methods for teaching ELLs gives degree candidates an awareness and understanding of the sociocultural and sociolinguistic issues that impact the acquisition of English as an additional language among ELL students.
