Work-study and internship opportunities
History majors at McNeese have the opportunity to participate in internships at the Frazar Memorial Library archives or at local museums and galleries. A work-study program on campus also allows history majors to get hands-on experience teaching by tutoring their fellow university students in history.
Conferences
History majors are encouraged to join Phi Alpha Theta, an honor society that promotes the study of history through encouragement of research, publication and free exchange of ideas among historians, students and teachers. Students in Phi Alpha Theta have the chance to present academic research papers at the Louisiana Historical Association’s annual conference, and may be eligible for scholarships and awards.
Practical research
As a student in the history bachelor’s degree program, you’ll have the opportunity to dive deep into a specific aspect of history that interests you with a senior capstone project. You’ll work closely with a faculty mentor to thoroughly investigate a time, place and aspect of history of your choosing to cultivate your personal expertise before presenting preliminary research and a final in-depth oral presentation.
