At Sydney Secondary College, Balmain Campus community, where we are committed to creating learning experiences which enable students to grow and flourish.
Balmain Campus provides an exciting, student focused, co-educational learning environment for students. The school is proud of its reputation for providing excellence and equity in public education, and the achievements of our students, whether they be academic, cultural or sporting, are testament to this.
"Strive to Succeed" was the motto adopted by the school in 1974. This principle is still our primary focus today; it underpins the school's attitude to change, development and adaptation in preparing students of today for the world of tomorrow. Learning to collaborate and innovate in teams, to solve problems and communicate effectively is a growing priority at our school.
At Balmain we offer inclusive and stimulating curriculum opportunities which challenge students to think critically and creatively. We provide an integrated approach to the use of technology and students use both laptops and iPads to support their learning needs. Students are linked to one another and to their classroom teacher through email and online learning tools such as Edmodo.
Our passionate and dedicated teachers are highly skilled and experts in middle schooling. Many teachers at the school have been recognised at district, state and national levels for their expertise in their chosen fields. Many are leaders in professional organisations, HSC examiners, published writers or active members in the local community.
Sporting facilities continue to expand and improve to meet the growing demand and increased success of our sporting teams at zone, state and national levels. Our fully equipped gym, basketball court, kayaking, and sports wheelchairs for the disabled all demonstrate our commitment to healthy competition for all.
With a wide choice of curricular and co-curricular activities our students are guided and challenged to discover their interests, passions and capabilities. Student leadership is encouraged through our active SRC and other student lead groups. We work closely with both Leichhardt and Blackwattle Bay campuses and the local community to develop educational programs which support students at all stages of their development.
Along with both other campuses, Balmain has adopted a Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL) approach, where students are supported to become respectful and responsible lifelong learners.
Parents at this school are our partners in education. The P&C motto "It takes a community to raise a child" demonstrates our deeply held belief in this partnership. Fundraising, environmental improvement, homework policy, uniform, financial planning, school promotion all verify the parent communities commitment to the school. The core business of the school - teaching and learning is in safe hands for the new century.
