The Academy of Music and Performing Arts (AMPA) is an ambitious, innovative bachelor conservatory program that emphasizes high quality performance, chamber music, and creativity. The Academy brings students to a high level of excellence, while connecting music with other art forms such as dance, theater and fine arts. Our core program components are artistic excellence, an international environment, entrepreneurial skills, intensive work with ensembles in residence, and interdisciplinary opportunities. We educate students to become leaders in their field and play important roles in the development of new visions on the music profession.
The AMPA way of studying
At AMPA instrumental lessons are of major importance. Therefore you get at least 3 hours a week of instrument lessons, which consist of individual lessons, group lessons, technique and ensemble. This results in almost twice as much contact with your instrument and ensemble teachers than in other conservatories. At the same time you learn how to reflect on your own development and that of others. You evolve at a faster pace, you encourage each other through constructive criticism. In the ensemble and chamber music trajectories - and most of the times also with regard to your instrument lessons - team teaching is at the heart of the program. You will get inspired by multiple teachers in a dynamic and pro-active, collaborative context. Besides all this, you participate in projects and masterclasses, you work together with ensembles in residence and partners in the region, and you audition for our concert series in- and outside AMPA. Furthermore, you will get the opportunity to design your trajectory at AMPA for a large part yourself. This result in unique and personal routes which differ from student to student. We don’t believe in offering the same program to every student. We prefer to start from the student’s personal interest, qualities and preferences. A professional team of mentors will guide you to make the right choices. Finally, music theory, music history, cultural theory, research, entrepreneurship, interdisciplinary courses and a lot of electives (like conducting, philosophy, teaching skills) complete your curriculum.
