The business economics major explores the role that businesses play in the economy as well as the impact of economic forces on businesses, consumers, and the environment. You’ll gain an understanding of management issues and develop analytic skills for solving business problems.
Core courses will give you a foundation in economics, accounting, statistics, and data analysis. Electives will enable you to customize the major for your interests and career goals: choose from courses on ethics, finance, government policy, and more. In small, interactive classes, professors and classmates will encourage you to express your ideas clearly and confidently, in writing and speech. You’ll also be encouraged to take mathematics courses to strengthen your quantitative skills.
Your professors will help you identify an organization where you can put your knowledge into practice through an internship. Faculty will mentor you one-on-one as you develop a project for your senior seminar, using analytical or quantitative methods to evaluate a real-life business problem.
When you graduate, you’ll be ready for a career in finance, banking, economic analysis, securities trading, insurance, management consulting, or government regulation. Or you could choose to enter graduate school for an MBA or a degree in a related discipline. At Mills, you can earn an MBA or an MA in applied economics in just one year of study beyond your BA as part of our bachelor’s-to-master’s accelerated degree program.
