Note that the English language proficiency requirement may be waived for international students who score 600 or above on the critical reading portion of the SAT.

Course Information

Chemistry grounds our understanding of the nature of the world through investigation of matter’s structure, composition, physical properties, and reactions. Studying chemistry will prepare you for a career in biotech, biofuels, laboratory research, and more, as well as for advanced study in chemistry, medicine, pharmacology, and related fields.

The Chemistry Program at Mills offers small classes and a collaborative scientific community. Professors and peers will encourage you to ask questions and express your ideas powerfully. You’ll have opportunities to participate in faculty-led research, write scientific papers, and present findings at conferences. Success as a chemist requires skill with sophisticated instrumentation, and at Mills you’ll handle every piece of equipment in our labs.

When you’re ready to try an off-campus internship, launch a job search, or apply for graduate study, you’ll get help from your professors and the career services office. The senior seminar for chemistry majors provides additional support. Our San Francisco Bay Area location has helped graduates find positions as scientists, engineers, and teachers with some of the region’s most innovative employers, such as Tesla Motors and Intel. Graduates have also landed in doctoral programs at UC Berkeley, Stanford University, and beyond.
