The Bachelor of Social Work will suit school leavers, VET students who want to transition into Higher Education, mature students, and career changers who want to enter the human services sector.
Social work's mission and core philosophy is to work within socio-political, cultural and economic systems in order to influence policy and social change, as well as to advocate for and with individuals, families and communities for their rights as citizens. ACAP's social work courses provide students with foundational knowledge in the social sciences, including contemporary society, psychology of health and wellness, developmental psychology, public policy, and civil society. Social theory and skills in working with individuals, families and communities as advocates for social change form the basis of the course. In addition, students will explore the ongoing impact of gender, sexual orientation, ability, race/ ethnicity and culture on psycho-socio-political, cultural and economic relations and their influence on social issues and problems.
Graduate employment opportunities exist in a variety of health and welfare fields, as carers, case managers and general human services workers in small community-based programs and services, as well as some Government departments and large and small NGOs. Graduates can also work in local, state, territory, federal and non-government welfare agencies and organisations, charitable and faith-based organisations, small community-based services, schools, electoral offices, advocacy groups, international aid organisations, and for-profit providers.
Upon successful completion, graduates can also pathway into postgraduate coursework Graduate Certificates, Graduate Diplomas or Master Degrees, including ACAP’s Master of Social Work.
