Admission Requirements

Entry Requirements

Meet one of the following criteria:

For students seeking entry into the MSWQ upon completion of the GCHS:

  • A Bachelor degree with at least 4 cognate units (for example in social sciences, psychology, community and welfare work, nursing, allied health, counselling), or

  • A Bachelor degree with evidence of at least six months of full-time study in social sciences, or equivalent

AND

  • A written 500-word statement outlining your interest in studying social work.

For students who do NOT seek entry into the MSWQ:

  • A Bachelor degree.

AND

  • A written 500-word statement outlining your interest in studying social work.

Overseas qualifications must be deemed by ACAP as equivalent to Australian qualifications.

English Requirements

International student IELTS requirement: Academic IELTS minimum overall band of 6.5 with no individual band below 6.0 completed in the last two years (or equivalent).

Course Information

The Graduate Certificate of Human Services will provide students with the knowledge and skills to transition into a Human Services profession.

The Graduate Certificate of Human Services will provide students with specific knowledge in sociology, social policy making, Indigenous issues, and professional communications preparing them for human services work or a pathway into the Master of Social Work.

Students will learn about contemporary Australian issues and nuances and how this relates to human services work, especially social work in the Australian community. Students will be guided on how to develop verbal and written communication, critical thinking and reasoning with an Australian context.
