This course is an effective starting point for launching a career as an English Teacher. If want to become a secondary school teacher you will need to major in English, but if you wish to teach at primary level this is unnecessary.
This course is extremely flexible if you are interested in customising your degree to your needs and interests or wish to explore career options. You will have opportunities for visits, researching educational settings and activities in schools and other educational contexts.
You will gain a comprehensive and thorough understanding of English with modules covering every period from the Early Middle Ages to the present day. At the same time, you will explore how education systems develop and how people learn. You will engage with texts and ideologies through extensive reading, the study of literature’s intellectual and historical contexts and the sociology, philosophy and psychology of education.
