Why study Health and Social Care

  • This course is designed to equip you with the necessary skills, abilities and knowledge to meet the rapidly expanding and changing environment in health and social care. This course aims to give you the knowledge, understanding and core skills required to pursue a wide range of careers in a variety of statutory or non-statutory, community or residential health and social care settings. Graduates might go into areas such as working in drugs and alcohol, housing, women’s centres, domestic violence and disability.
  • Giving you the opportunity to develop your skills and put you in a good position for both the UK and an international jobs market, personal and professional development, leadership and international perspectives are keen components of this course. You’ll also be supported in exploring and identifying a range of career choices for yourself.

How will you learn

  • You’ll be taught different aspects of health and social care, from looking at how to assess needs to being introduced to law, social policy, assessment and care planning.
  • You’ll explore your own values in relation to working with diverse groups, and engage in becoming a reflective practitioner.
  • Taking a hands-on approach you’ll have the opportunity to put your theoretical skills into practice through undertaking a work placement in your third year. This will support and enhance your learning, increase your future employability prospects and give you the chance to make useful contacts in industry so that you can reach your full potential.
  • You’ll be taught by a very supportive and experienced teaching team who have worked in a range of Health and Social Care roles. They’ll use their expertise to bring their teaching to life with real-life case studies.
