Course Information

Directed by a core faculty of distinguished composers—including John Bischoff, Chris Brown, James Fei, Maggi Payne, and Technical Director Les Stuck—the master of fine arts (MFA) in electronic music and recording media welcomes composers and sound artists working with electronic music and electroacoustic media.

This innovative interdisciplinary program focuses on electronic and computer music, the recording arts, and experimental media. You can take courses in recording and mixing, digital and analog synthesis, music software design and programming, interactive music composition, video, and live electronic music performance. Many of these classes are offered in the studios of the Center for Contemporary Music.

Faculty will encourage you to explore interdisciplinary and collaborative work across disciplines, including dance, art, computer science, poetry, and literature. You’ll have access to the facilities and curriculum of Art and Technology, which provides links for students and faculty from all the fine arts disciplines, in addition to offering an undergraduate major.

You’ll also have numerous opportunities outside the classroom to perform, meet visiting artists and composers-in-residence, and hear new work and ideas. Learn more about these activities at Mills and beyond.
