Admission Requirements

Entry requirements:

Entry in the 1 year or 1.5 year degree program is determined by the Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) criteria below:

Admission to candidature for the Master of Media Practice (1.5 years full-time) requires:

  • a bachelor's degree with a minimum credit (65%) average calculated over the whole degree, from the University of Sydney, or an equivalent qualification.

Admission to candidature for the Master of Media Practice (1 year full-time) requires:

  • completion of the embedded Graduate Certificate or Graduate Diploma in Media Practice with a minimum credit (65%) average, or an equivalent qualification; or
  • an Honours degree in a relevant discipline; or
  • relevant professional work experience and a bachelor's degree with a minimum credit (65%) average or an equivalent qualification.

English requirements:

  • IELTS Academic: A minimum result of 7.0 overall and a minimum result of 6.0 in each band
  • TOEFL iBT: A minimum result of 96 overall including a minimum result of 17 in Reading, Listening and Speaking and 19 in Writing
  • TOEFL PBT score: A minimum result of 592 overall including a minimum result of 4.5 in Writing
  • PTE Academic: A minimum result of 68 overall and a minimum result of 54 in each band

Course Information

The Master of Media Practice focuses on content production in the dynamic and increasingly global field of media and communications. Areas of study include broadcast and online journalism, media liaison, writing for media, social media communication, feature writing, ethical and legal issues, and international media practice.

This course will broaden your written and spoken communication skills as well as your production skills in print, broadcast and online media. You will also develop a sophisticated understanding of media industries, audiences and global media environments.
