Course Information

The MSc Logistics and Supply Chain Management at Lancaster University Leipzig is designed to train students to become professionals with analytical skills, strategic thinking and problem-solving abilities in a global operating environment.

In a world where supply chains are increasingly complex and tied to real-time data, the programme helps students:

Understand how to organise, control and optimise logistics and supply chain operations.

Apply modelling, quantitative analysis and forecasting tools to make effective business decisions.

Develop strategic thinking in global operations, from inventory management, transportation, to international supplier selection.

Semester 1 – Core Foundation
Global Sourcing
Strategy and practice of selecting global suppliers.
Factors affecting cross-border supply chains.
Inventory Control
Inventory analysis, optimizing inventory levels according to demand and production cycles.
EOQ model, ABC analysis, safety stock…
Operations Management
Manufacturing & service operations management: lean systems, bottlenecks, operational capacity synthesis.

Semester 2 – Advanced and analytical tools
Supply Chain Analytics
Using data to analyze and improve supply chain efficiency.
Modeling techniques, simulation software.
Forecasting and Predictive Analytics
Demand forecasting using methods: regression, exponential smoothing, ARIMA, ML.
Application to logistics planning.
Logistics Modeling
Transportation modeling, logistics network design, route optimization, warehouse location.

Semester 3 – Dissertation / Real Project
Dissertation or Client-Based Project
Choose 1 of 2 forms:
Dissertation: in-depth academic research (can apply quantitative models).
Client-Based Project: implement a real solution for a partner business (DHL, Amazon, Siemens...).
