Course Information

This 20-week course is ideal if you need to improve your English language by the equivalent of IELTS 1.5 before starting your chosen degree. It is designed for international and EU students who already hold a conditional offer for an undergraduate or postgraduate course.

This course will develop your general language skills. It will start by introducing you to reading, writing, listening and speaking in an academic context. It will then offer you extensive practice in academic reading, writing and listening and will develop your presentation and seminar skills. With its focus on preparing you for successful university study in the UK, you will better understand UK university culture, customs and expectations upon completion.

Learning will take place in seminars with a maximum of 20 people in a class. You will have 20 classes per week, each class lasting 50 minutes. This will be 16.7 hours of classes per week. Classes will be at any time between 09:00 and 18:00 from Monday to Friday. Please note, there will be no classes on national holidays (Friday 8 May, Monday 25 May and Monday 31 August 2020). You will also have one-to-one tutorials with your personal tutor and you will have access to lots of self-study resources stored in our online library. Your assessments will include a mix of coursework, which tests your reading, writing, speaking and listening; there will be no end-of-course examination.

Please note that our English language courses are adult courses. The minimum age of entry is 17. The university does not act 'in loco parentis' and cannot provide 24-hour supervision of 17 year-olds. A signed parental consent form for students under the age of 18 is required prior to enrolment.

Successful completion of the course will enable you to progress to your chosen undergraduate or postgraduate programme.
