Entry requirements

 

  • A completed graduate study application form (Apply online now for free!).

  • A bachelor's degree from an accredited institution and official undergraduate transcripts from all institutions attended.

  • In addition to the admission requirements above, applicants to the Master of Arts in Elementary/Middle Level Education must:

  • Have maintained a minimum 3.0 GPA while earning an undergraduate degree.

  •  
  • Official transcript(s) from any institution(s) in which postbaccalaureate or graduate course work was completed.

  • One letter of recommendation written by an appropriate professional.

  • A current resume.

  • A personal statement explaining how the Seton Hill graduate program can help you accomplish your professional goals.

English requirements

  • TOEFL score of at least 213 (computer-based), or 79-80 (Internet based).

  • IELTS score of 6.0.

  • Completion of 30 semester hours at a U.S. university.

  • Completion of an ESL program.

  • SAT score of at least a 470 on the critical reading section.

  • ACT composite score of 20 or higher.

  • Duolingo score of at least 100.

Today’s classrooms embrace students representing a variety of sociocultural backgrounds, learning styles and gifts. Seton Hill’s Master of Arts in Elementary/Middle Level Education Program provides elementary and middle level teachers with the skills and strategies they need to meet the needs of every student. 

  • No GMAT or GRE required for admission.

  • Streamlined 30-credit master’s program with 15 credits offered online.

  • You will enjoy learning from faculty who are experts in the field of education with substantial classroom experience.

  • As part of this program you have the option to complete the requirements for teaching certification at the Middle Level, grades 4 -8.  There will be an additional credit requirement consisting of 52 credits of education courses and 48 credits in an academic concentration and supporting areas (Science, Social Studies, Mathematics and English/ Language Arts), as dictated by the state of Pennsylvania for those earning their initial teaching certificate.  

  • You will receive personal support from your faculty advisor, and will also benefit from our Career and Professional Development Center. (And the Center remains available to you after you graduate.)

Requirements in the M.A. in Elementary/Middle Education Program with Initial Teaching Certification:


  • 30 graduate level credits are focused on middle school theory, practice, and pedagogy (listed above).

  • Content-area undergraduate credits as required by the Pennsylvania Department of Education in content areas of English/Language Arts, Math, Science, and Social Studies.  (Credits previously earned in the students’ undergraduate programs can be applied to the requirement.)

  • Test scores are required by the Pennsylvania Department of Education for the 4-8 Middle Level Certificate.
