Course Information

Computer Systems play an important role in today’s society. They are key for making devices interact and enabling people to communicate quickly and securely. The industry impacts people’s daily lives and businesses, and continues to grow and evolve. You will investigate the wide reaching influences that computers and computing technology have on the world, whilst also making your own contributions to help you find your place within the industry.

This course is also available with an integrated postgraduate year. For further information please see the Computer Systems Engineering BEng/MEng.

During your first year you will share common modules with all computing students, giving you the flexibility in your second and third year. These modules will cover the fundamental computing principles including computer systems, software engineering, problem solving, programming and internet technology.

In years two and three, you will specialise in Computer Systems Engineering with a focus on operating and embedded systems, network planning and development, digital signal processing, and embedded real time systems, as well as the design and development of microprocessor systems.

You will also develop your design and programming skills, as well as optimization for 2D and 3D platforms. There will be a group project on software engineering in your second year and an independent dissertation in your final year.
