Course Information

Description

Biomedical Engineering combines engineering principles with medical sciences to develop cutting-edge healthcare devices. The South Australian biomedical industry is rapidly growing, and it needs a specialised and highly trained workforce at the paraprofessional qualification level.

Qualifications & Skills Covered

Topics covered include engineering practice, mathematics, digital electronics, anatomy and physiology for biomedical technologists, computer science, project management, biomedical instrumentation and microcontroller programming. To complete the qualification you are required to complete all 15 core units and 2 elective units.

Course Notes

  • If students do not have Year 12 maths or overseas equivalent, they may wish to undertake the Diploma of Electronics and Communication Engineering prior to this Associate Degree as a package. The Diploma will provide students with the necessary skills and knowledge in maths to receive entry into the Associate Degree.

  • The Associate Degree in Biomedical Engineering will be taught 80% at Regency Campus and 20% at Tonsley Campus, and some classes may be held in the evening.

  • Students doing the package of both the Diploma and Associate Degree will undertake course units from both qualifications during the 3rd and 4th semester of the 6 semester package.
