Course Information

This course will provide you with the academic skills to understand and analyse the media and provide you with the practical skills to work within it. It will help you develop specific practical skills and enhance your powers of communication across a range of media, such as radio, online media and journalism.

The aim of the course is to enable you to become an effective media communicator and analyst. You will explore and examine critically at aspects of the media (radio, film, television, press, media institutions, new media technologies) to understand how they work and their role in our lives. You will choose a practical area (radio, online media, journalism) and move from a basic to a broader production experience. You will also produce a special project, choosing either to create a portfolio of work, or to write a dissertation on an aspect of the media that you would like to explore in more depth.

The course aims to produce students with a well-rounded understanding of the way the media works and how it shapes our understanding of the world. It also aims to produce students with good communication and research skills, which are essential in most careers
