Course Information

This course builds on the Schools established strengths in biomedicine research and complements a number of other courses within the school. The course includes a common core of chemical and biomedical topics and provides a curriculum aligned to the areas identified by the British Pharmacological Society including Public Health Science and Healthcare Policy aspects.

The School has strong links to external stakeholders in both clinical and industrial sectors and can provide you with the opportunity to gain valuable work experience.

The Pharmaceutical industry, and associated industries such as Cosmetics, Agrochemicals and Veterinary Medicine, is one of the most research led sectors in the UK. Over the next 10 years it is expected that there will be a significant shortfall in suitably qualified entrants to this industry as it attempts to maintain its current level of growth. In a number of areas such as Systems Pharmacology and Medicinal Chemistry a projected major skills gap has been identified. In this course we shall provide appropriate training in both the traditional topics associated with pharmaceutical research in addition to those that are required to for the future of the Pharmaceutical Industry.
