Entry requirements

  • You must be physically able to undertake the practical components of the programme.

English requirements

  • If English is not your first language, we want to make sure that you will be successful in your chosen programme of study.
  • Please provide a result from a test or qualification on the acceptable alternatives English Proficiency Outcomes Chart.

OR

  • If you are a New Zealand Citizen or Permanent Resident, complete an Admission and Enrolment form and Ara will contact you regarding a free assessment.
  • If you are not a New Zealand Citizen or Permanent resident, book an IELTS or other test through the AraExamination Centre or in your home country.
  • IELTS scores used must be taken from a single IELTS Test Report Form and are valid for two years from the date of the test.
  • Overall IELTS requirements 5.5 academic: speaking 5.0, reading 5.0, writing 5.0, listening 5.0.

Course Information

Develop your communication, café and barista skills and improve your understanding of business operating procedures.

Learning in our campus café from tutors with extensive experience you'll acquire the skills to produce a range of bar and barista beverages to a high standard and provide informal table service.

You'll also gain an understanding of operating procedures in cafes, bars and restaurants and learn how to communicate effectively in these environments.

Note: You can concurrently enrol in both the Level 3 and Level 4 components of the New Zealand Certificate in Food and Beverage Service.

This programme is also offered for Youth Guarantee students. You can apply for these options if you're 16 to 19 years of age and no longer at school, or if you're planning on leaving school.

A workplace training option is available too, for those already employed in a hospitality environment.
