Admission Requirements

Entry requirements

NCEA Level 2 which must include:

  • 8 Literacy credits at Level 2 or above and
  • 14 Numeracy credits at Level 1 or above

Note: If you have undertaken examinations other than NCEA (e.g. International Baccalaureate, Cambridge Examination), Ara will assess your qualification for academic entry equivalency.

English requirements

  • If English is not your first language, we want to make sure that you will be successful in your chosen programme of study.
  • Please provide a result from a test or qualification on the acceptable alternatives English Proficiency Outcomes Chart.

OR

  • If you are a New Zealand Citizen or Permanent Resident, complete an Admission and Enrolment form and Ara will contact you regarding a free assessment.
  • If you are not a New Zealand Citizen or Permanent resident, book an IELTS or other test through the AraExamination Centre or in your home country.
  • IELTS scores used must be taken from a single IELTS Test Report Form and are valid for two years from the date of the test.
  • Overall IELTS requirements 5.5 academic: speaking 5.0, reading 5.0, writing 5.0, listening 5.0.

You'll investigate business software options, study up-to-date accounting principles and practices, and learn about risk management, ethics, legislation, economic dynamics, supply and demand, sustainable management and strategies for operational efficiency. HR, sales and marketing, innovation and communication are also covered.

  • This qualification will equip you with the skills and knowledge needed to work in a variety of business entities in accounting roles such as: finance administrator, inventory controller, accounts receivable/payable officer. You may also be able to contribute to community groups in volunteer accounting functions.
  • Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand (CAANZ) recognise those students who complete the Level 5 Diploma in Business with the Accounting Strand as having the academic requirements to become a provisional member, and enter the Accounting Technician programme. To complete this process you need to apply via the CAANZ website to gain provisional membership on completion of the qualification.
