Extend your expertise in health science and expand your career opportunities.
If you have a degree in nursing or a health-related area and you'd like to extend your knowledge and skills for advanced practice in the health sector, this programme will build on your specialist knowledge, enabling you to progress to management positions or enter into health teaching in your area of practice.
The Master of Health Science programme is tailored for health managers and health practitioners, specifically those working for DHBs, PHOs, the fitness industry and sports organisations, as well as social workers, community care workers and allied health practitioners.
You will expand your knowledge within an inter-disciplinary learning environment and develop skills in critical analysis, constructive synthesis, and advanced practice and research within your chosen discipline area. An option for this programme is the completion of a 30 credit scholarly project or a 90 credit thesis. This provides the opportunity for you to critically examine philosophical, methodological and ethical issues that underpin research and establish a sound foundation for developing knowledge and understanding of the nature and application of research.
To achieve this degree you need to complete 180 credits within three years, including 60 credits at Level 9. This can be done by completing seven of the available courses within three years, or a blend of courses together with a thesis or scholarly project totalling 180 credits.
* This programme includes compulsory two-day onsite workshops at the City campus for some courses.
^ Please note that not all courses are offered in both semesters, and that some courses are prerequisites for others.
