If you're a New Zealand citizen or permanent resident and are between 16 to 19 years old, you can apply to study regardless of the qualifications you've achieved at school.

English requirements

Course Information

Prepare for a career in tourism and hospitality by gaining a foundation of essential basic skills.

Youth Guarantee programmes are FREE* and a great way to learn practical skills and gain a qualification. You can apply for these options if you're 16 to 19 years of age and no longer at school, or you're planning on leaving school.

You'll receive two certificates: the New Zealand Certificate in Tourism (Introductory Skills) (Level 2) and the New Zealand Certificate in Hospitality - Food and Beverage Service, these give you the chance to explore both areas of the industry, including career opportunities and further study options.

The tourism component will give you skills in customer service and equip you with knowledge of national and international tourist destinations. You'll learn about a 'planet safe' approach to tourism and gain an understanding of New Zealand's strong Maori heritage.

The hospitality component will prepare you with skills in food, beverage and front-of-house, and give you a taste for further study in cooking, hospitality or tourism. It covers barista basics, food and beverage service, work safe practices and customer service. With the guidance of our expert tutors, you'll be able to plan your career with a focus on hospitality.
